A Year of Motherhood

I’ve been a mum for nearly a year now.
Here is that year in some words.

Motherhood
It is excitement for all of their ages to come.
It is an ache to relive each milestone passed.
It is bursting with pride at a spoken word and a wobbly step.
It is some poop on your sofa.
It is rediscovering the magic in some bubbles or a tree or a woodlouse or a ketchup bottle.
It’s sick in your hair.
It is warm (both the feeling of motherhood and the aforementioned sick).
It is a realignment of your priorities.
It is having to hold soggy bits of food in the palm of your hand.
It is reassurance.
It is becoming a grounding force and a guiding light.
It is feeling the pressure of being those things every single day.
It is having toy trains in your bag at all times. It is 'Please don't eat the baby wipes'.
It is holding a hand.
It is no longer being able to watch 'Finding Nemo' without crying.
It is exhilarating.
It is strength.
It is guilt.
It is tears and tantrums (both yours and theirs).
It is love and laughter.
It is coming alive when witnessing that light in their eyes.
It is wanting to completely protect your child from the world while, instead, surfacing their strengths so they can greet it with confidence.
